If you are shopping around for an assisted living facility for yourself or someone you care about, it can be easy to get distracted by all of the positive things that you see. When you hear about transportation assistance, on-site nursing staff, coordinated activities and other fun perks, you might think that you have chosen the perfect place. However, there are a few other things that you should look for before making a decision. For example, you should ensure that the bedroom is comfortable and safe. These are a few things that you should find in the bedroom of a good assisted living facility; if a facility bedroom is missing any of these things, then it's probably best to look for another option.

1. Hospital Bed

Although the rest of the bedroom in an assisted living facility might look like any other bedroom, the bed itself should be a hospital bed. A hospital bed can be lowered, which means it can be easier and safer for you or your loved one to get in and out of, and it can be adjusted to provide maximum comfort. Plus, hospital beds usually have high rails to help prevent falls.

2. Emergency Call Buttons

Lots of elderly individuals suffer from falls when they are in the bedroom, such as when they are getting in and out of the bed or when they get up to go to the restroom in the middle of the night. Therefore, it's important to have emergency call buttons in the bedroom so that you or your loved one can call for assistance in the event of an emergency.

3. Cable Hook-Up

You or your loved one will probably be spending a lot of time in the bedroom, so you're going to want there to be some source of entertainment. Look for an assisted living facility that offers a cable hook-up in the bedroom to make it easy to find something to watch on TV. You might also want to look for in-room Internet access, if this is something that you or your loved one are interested in.

All assisted living facilities have different things to offer. There are a few things that you should look for in the bedroom to help ensure that you or your loved one are as comfortable and safe as possible. If you don't spot these three things, you might want to look for a different facility.
